RAY ROBERTS LAKE STATE PARK DENTON COUNTY Isle du Bois Unit 100 PW 4137 Escape the bustle of the city and get back to nature just an hour north of the DFW Metroplex. Come play at Ray Roberts Lake State Park the day or the weekend! Ray Roberts Lake State Park sits where three unique corrections meet: Eastern Cross Timbers, Blackland Prairie and Grand Prairie. Most of the park lies in the Eastern Cross Timbers, a narrow strip of hardwood forest stretching south into prairie ecosystems, with the Blackland Prairie to the east, and the Grand Prairie to the west. The park has land in all three regions. Because of this, it is a rich and diverse area. More than 300 species of plants grow here. Many animals find food and shelter in the oak woodlands and prairie grasslands of the park. Geologically, this region is part of the Woodbine formation. This Upper Cretaceous deposit formed about 65 million years ago of mostly sandstone, with some local layers of shale and clay. The 20-mile multiuse runs from the Ray Roberts Dam to Lake Lewisville, along the Elm Fork Branch of the Trinity River. Horse riders can use 12 miles of the trail,

| Six O S Ranch Johnson County 11404 FM 200, Cleburne, Tx 76033 Ted and Kim Reeeves #817/558-7146 From 35W south of Fort Worth, take 67 west past Cleburne towards Glen Rose and turn south (left) on Park Road 21. Go approximately 7 miles, pass the State Park and Lime Co on the right, and take the first right onto FM 200. Six O Ranch will be on your right, there will be a sign and white pipe gate entrance. The Six O Ranch, located just outside of Cleburne, in North Central Texas, is a family owned and operated working cattle ranch managed by Ted and Kim Reeves. The ranch often hosts organized competitive trail rides or other trail events and welcomes day riders by appointment for just $10.00 per rider. A negative Coggins will need to be presented. This lovely Central Texas ranch offers a variety of terrain, and with 35 miles of riding trails it is definitely worth visiting. The hills are rocky with some mild to moderate grades, some of the trails are shaded with cedars and oaks, and other trails are wide open with no shade or cover. The varied terrain is a real plus in providing opportunities to work on teaching your horse to watch their step and enjoying stretching out at a faster pace in the open fields and good footing. Watering opportunities for your horse are quite adequate on the trails by way of tanks, creeks, and water troughs with what appears to be functioning windmills. Be cautious at the large cement water troughs not to allow your horse to step in, as the depth of the trough is deeper than the surrounding ground.

BENBROOK LAKE EQUESTRIAN TRAILS Tarrant County Benbrook Lake is located in the scenic open countryside of rolling hills and prairie meadows southwest of Fort Worth, Texas. Conveniently accessible from the Fort Worth / Dallas metroplex, the lake is only 2.5 miles (4 km) south of Interstate Highway 20 on US Highway 377. Picnicking, camping, fishing, hunting, boating, hiking and birdwatching are just the beginning of the activities available in the parks and other public lands at Benbrook Lake. South Holiday Campground Site 65 is for equestrian use only. There are trailheads in this park to access over 14 miles of equestrian and hiking trails.
East Fork / Lavon Lake Dallas County Lavon Lake, in northern Texas, flows from the East Fork tributary of the Trinity River. Its surface area spans 21,400 acres and the maximum lake depth of around 59 ft.. East Fork Campground, on the southern shores of Lavon Lake, is a popular escape for city dwellers in the Dallas, Texas area or for any visitors passing through the Northern Texas region. The campground boasts everything including RV campsites, tent campsites, equestrian campsites, a group shelter and a swimming beach to keep visitors entertained during their stay. The Trinity Trail Preservation Association is a non-profit organization that maintains the 25 mile long trail on the Corps of Engineers land along Lake Lavon. http://www.trinitytrailriders.org http://www.trinitytrailsblog.org This multi-purpose trail offers a relaxing way to get close to nature without a long drive. On a weekend day you’ll find scout troops, nature lovers, horse back riders and families out for the day enjoying the trail. No wheeled vehicles or motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail. There are three trailheads from south to north: East Fork, Brockdale and Highland Park. At the southern end is the East Fork day use trailhead, plus an equestrian campground which is part of the US Army Corps of Engineers East Fork Park. There are 11 pull through spaces big enough for the biggest rigs, two pens per site, water, electric, covered picnic tables, a pavilion and showers and bathrooms.

| BIG MINERAL EQUESTRIAN TRAIL Grayson County Address : 2889 Big Mineral Rd City: Sadler State: Texas Zip Code: 76264 Lake Texoma is one of the most beautiful spots found anywhere in the southwest. Located on the border of Texas and Oklahoma, Lake Texoma is a premier vacation destination. Managed by the Corps of Engineers, this 89,000 acre lake has a protected shoreline Adjacent to Big Mineral Camp, the Big Mineral Equestrian and Hiking Trails were cleared 20 years ago and have grown up over the years. Volunteers maintain the area which is a very popular equestrian trail. The Corps of Engineers provide materials but riders and locals handle most of the cleanup. You can ride through trees and creeks and al ong the shoreline of Lake Texoma. There are two trails, Brushy Creek and Walnut Creek, with a total of 15 miles. The campground is tables only. It is a very primitive camp with very few if any amenities except those that are offered by nature. The best times to visit are spring, winter and fall.
