WB Ranch Ride Big Success!
The WB Ranch ride was held May 14-17. This is actually a Heart of Texas trailride that Vernon Leuschner decided many years ago to make into a TETRA benefit ride. Vernon donates all of the proceeds from this ride to TETRA, and it is one of the biggest money makers that TETRA has for the year. He and his wife, Kathy, do all of the work themselves, except for the cooking.Vernon starts weeks ahead of time, making arrangements with the ranch, shreding, mowing, etc. He is also the trail boss. Kathy does all of the registering, rides as scout and helps Vernon with all things required. We deeply appreciate all their time and energy they put into this ride. Gary Bighouse and his wife Becky did all of the cooking and it was just great.
The ride itself has grown in popularity and last year we had over or close to a 100 riders. This year the weather kept some people away, but most still came out and braved the rainy forecast. We had a super ride on Friday, morning and afternoon. The sun was out and we all got a little tan. Vernon took us down a bunch of new trails he and Kathy had made and they were just wonderful and shady for the most part.
It began raining Friday night into Saturday and some people went home, but probably regretted it later, because it quit raining, we had the afternoon ride in the rain cooled weather. We had a dance Saturday night overlooking the Brazos River and everyone had a blast dancing the night away. Sunday morning, we had a small Cowboy Church type meeting on the horses, then hit the trail again with Vernon and his good horse, Sam, leading the way.
Thanks to all who make this ride possible and we hope to have the privilage of being able to have this ride for many years to come.
