TETRA - Trail Riding for Everyone

Storm Ranch Ride Held By Region 10

April 17-18, 2009

IMG_8719B.jpgThe weather cooperated and it was a wonderful ride. It rained heavily on Friday, so lots of calls to see if the ride was canceled. We were committed to riding out the weather, and I am really glad we did. It rained again Saturday morning, but we were able to saddle up and ride out around 10:30, after Kelly and other volunteers, prepared a great breakfast with home grown, fresh eggs, made into tacos.

IMG_8620.jpgWe had about 20 riders, and two wagons. Kelly Boeson was driving a three up and Dave Feltenberger was driving a two up mule team. We had several endurance riders attend. They helped with opening and closing gates and assisted Dave with training his green mule.

IMG_8617.jpgWe ate lunch at the perfect lookout. We had delicious, home made pimento cheese and chicken salad prepared by Christy Villa, along with ham/turkey/cheese slices. IMG_8156A.jpg

Dave recited some requested cowboy poetry, and we had some great laughs. Donna Murphy, a TETRA charter member, announced that along existing trails at Canyon Lake, she plans IMG_8155.jpgto talk with the Corps of Engineers about the possibility of developing some overnight camping sites. This would be great news, as we have few over night camping sites in and around the San Antonio area for equestrian riders.

The weather was overcast, but very mild. A lovely day. Our guide, Nancy Sutherland did a great job of leading us, and Chris Hetzog, Mr. Storm’s grand-daughter, also rode with us. The family has been very gracious to let us continue this ride and supported us with their incredible hospitality.

IMG_8570.jpgSaturday night was more food, and visiting around the campfire. Sunday morning we had more riders for the day.The new riders enjoyed more breakfast, and a lovely day with not a cloud in the sky. We had several riders who were either new to TETRA, had just renewed their membership or lived close by and had never ridden the Storm ranch. It was a great day. When we got back, there was still enough for lunch. The group was small, and very enjoyable. The pictures are compliments of Dan and Paula Englehart of Thrall.

IMG_8541.jpgWe are in discussions about having a fall ride, and there will be more on that later. Don’t miss it!

Kelly Boeson and I talked to a 4H group in Bee Cave April 14. This small, but very enthusiastic group of young ladies are interested in getting their own trail ride together. We hope to do a small class with them about trail etiquette, etc.

IMG_8039.jpgA big thank you to the folks that helped with the Storm Ranch ride, as it was a group effort. Kelly and Sue Boeson-cooking, cleaning, basic hard work, Ro Cass-storing supplies, bringing supplies, and food for Friday night-Thank you, you missed a great ride, Christy Villa-new member-help and home made pimento and chicken salad-can’t be beat, Judy Feltenberger-helping clean up-Debby Alley-registratrion-scout and general organizer-Diana Dwelle from San Antonio-middle scout-thanks a million-John Ticer - volunteering to open/close gates, and be foreward person-Erin Johnson -drag scout-closing gates, helping in general and also assistant cook. And to all that came and weathered the storm, brought food and fun. Thank you. And of course to the Storm family-who without them, this ride would not be possible. IMG_7704A.jpg
