TETRA Member Refurbishes Picnic Tables at Hancock Trails on Canyon Lake.
By: Hans Mcklitz
Sometime during this last summer, the Hancock Trails at Canyon Lake equestrian site on the north side of Canyon Lake was vandalized and the two beautiful, expensive picnic tables provided by the USCE, were set on fire and mostly burned up. Since the site is used quite extensively now by riders in this area (many are TETRA members), and the picnic tables were a great place to have lunch and socialize in the shade after a ride, I decided to take the tables home, remove all the burned components, and redo the tables with new, treated wood 2x10’s (see attached picture). Hancock Trails is in the Canyon Lake flood plane area on the north end of the lake off TX 306, and is controlled by the USCE. There is no entrance control or entrance fee and no overnight camping. Although the riding trail is not that long (only about 3+ miles one way), it is a great place to ride, enjoy a view of the lake, and in the summer go for a swim in the lake with your horse - great fun.
