Summer Ride and Trail Challenge
Class a Success!
By: Paula Engelhardt
Despite the heat, we had a great turnout for the summer ride and trail challenge class at Parrie Haynes Ranch July 22-24.
Friday night arrivals were treated to a delicious meal that featured a variety of fried fish, CAUGHT and prepared by Bill Pasko. Susan and Meade Mitchel
l procured the side dishes and Bonnie Pasko and her friend Sheila helped with set-up. A nice way to start the weekend!
Our appetites satisfied, many of us joined our board for a meeting in which many topics of interest were covered. Thank you to the board for their time and dedication.
On Saturday, after a nice breakfast provided by Ada Everly and James Rosser, those who wanted to beat the heat got an early start and headed down the trail at 8:00 a.m. Cloud cover and nice breezes were in our favor for the first half of the ride.
Geri, Stephanie and I took turns leading this ride that led us to the river for some refreshment for our mounts. We took the scenic ride back, through the woods
and stayed in the shade as much as possible. We arrived back at camp just as the temperature was starting to climb. Debby and Penny stayed back at camp to lead the 9:00 a.m. group which consisted of quite a few day riders.
At 2:00 p.m. the trail challenge class began and we had an impressive turnout with 24 entrants! The riders endured the heat of day while we spectators relaxed
under the shade tree in our lawn chairs. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the participants coax their steeds through the challenging course of obstacles. A wonderful afternoon of entertainment to be sure. A great big thanks goes out to Susie Kelly, our judge and her fantastic team including Jeannette Kessler,
Margaret Granger, Scotty Morris and Susie Grelle for all of their hard work in the heat. led us to the river for some refreshment for our mounts. We took the

I am always delighted by the number of great cooks we have in our group, making our potluck dinners something to look forward to – Saturday night’s meal was no exception. And thanks to James Rosser for providing the meat for our dinner.
After our delicious potluck, we gathered in the air conditioning for the trail challenge awards ceremony. Prizes were awarded for the
top ten placements which were as follows:
1st place: Bonnie Pasko; 2nd place: Sue Mitchell; 3rd place: Dareese Fish; 4th place: Larry Moore; 5th place: Debby Alley; 6th place: Phyllis Petronella; 7th place: Krista Koopmann; 8th place: Scott Calhoun; 9th place: Penny Moore; 10th place: Tracey Hallman. Congratulations to all!!
Following the awards presentation, two baskets filled with TETRA logo items, halters and lead ropes where raffled off. The lucky winners were Gary Hahn and Jan Price.
Each got their choice of apparel colors and sizes. Thanks to Penny Moore for organizing the raffle. We’ve made room for new TETRA merchandise so stay tuned.
Sunday morning, several groups rode out at various times, spontaneously traversing the trails, which provided a pleasant finale to the weekend.
Speaking for myself (and I think for the majority of the group), it was worth braving the triple digit temperatures to spend time communing with my horse and visiting with fellow TETRA members and guests. It is always such a pleasure to be in the presence of such devoted and like-minded people. Thank you to all who helped make this weekend such a great experience. It takes a lot of hands behind the scenes and TETRA has some of the best who step up to plate time and again. I apologize if I’ve forgotten anyone – please know your efforts are appreciated. Hope to see you all at the Fun Run in August.
