McCown Valley Workdays

September 15-17, 2023

To be rescheduled at a later date.

Reminder, Workdays at McCown Valley.  Region 8 is planning a work weekend at McCown Valley Corps of Engineers Park.  This is beautiful park is located on Lake Whitney and is TETRA's first project after founding in 1997.

This is a non-horse work event.  Bring your loppers and nippers and best walking shoes.

  1. We will be clearing and cleaning up the trails and filling in areas with gravel with wash out.
  1. Begin marking trails by letter and color codes using Carsonite posts and directional posts.
  1. Put in hitching posts at the Equestrian loop bathroom area and Day use bathroom area.
  1. Develop mileage markers to show how to get back to camp and distance to camp.
  1. Cut a trail from the Equestrian loop to the Day use area.

If you have a tractor and shredder or bucket, that would be helpful in removing underbrush, trees and shredding. Bring a chain saw or pole saw for trimming trees.

Camping is in the day use area, which has 10 spots available.  This is at no fee to for volunteers.

Breakfast and supper will be provided to all workers.  Water will be provided.  Sylvia and Blanfard Perry are sponsoring this clean up and planned improvements with the Army Corps of Engineers. The goal is to finish the outer perimeter trail in September, and flag the rest of the trails with tape so we can plan for permanent markers next March.

For those who want to bring horses, there are pens available.  Enjoy the trails after work!

Please join us, register at tetratrails.org for this great volunteer opportunity. Registering helps for planning.

Questions, please text or call Sylvia at 254-744-1405. If you can bring a tractor or some type of vehicle that you can haul trash out with or take people to and from the trails, please contact Sylvia.
